West to Visit London, Abu Dhabi to Discuss Afghanistan
US special envoy Thomas West said on Twitter that he will visit London and Abu Dhabi this week in order to connect with UK and UAE colleagues regarding shared interests in Afghanistan.
“I will visit London and Abu Dhabi this week, June 5-9, to connect with UK and UAE colleagues regarding shared interests in Afghanistan,” West tweeted.
“On June 21, the United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting to discuss Afghanistan, while another Afghan meeting will take place in Norway. America will not thus be indifferent,” said Aziz Marij, a political analyst.
However, the Islamic Emirate’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said these trips serve to increase cooperation with Afghanistan.
“Afghans are complaining that their rights are usurped and their money is blocked. Sanctions have been imposed on their banks by America, and the major projects are still faced with obstacles and recognition is prevented. This is all harmful and this method must changed,” Mujahid noted.
Analysts have different views on the US’s role and the trip of its representative for Afghanistan, given the country’s current situation.
“The US is built on a system. Its targets are already set, based on which goal it’s going toward and which goals it wants to implement, Afghanistan is not immune from it,” said Abdul Shukor Dadras, a political analyst.
Previously, Thomas West, the US special envoy for Afghanistan, visited a number of other regional and European nations, including India, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Switzerland, Germany, and Turkey.
