US To Press for Releasing Detainees in Afghanistan

The US Department of State said that they will continue to press for the release of US detainees in Afghanistan but their condition and number will not be made public.
Statement department spokesperson Mathew Miller said a number of issues were discussed with the Islamic Emirate delegation in Doha.
Resumption of flights from Afghanistan, counternarcotics, combating terrorists, and releasing detainees were among the issues discussed during the meeting.
Answering the question of lifting restrictions on Afghanistan’s banking system, Millers responded that no sanctions imposed by the US have been lifted and that he was not aware of any restrictions on Afghan banks.
The US special representatives for Afghanistan Thomas West and Rina Amiri held talks with the Afghan delegation led by acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in the Qatari capital, Doha, on July 31.
The Afghan Ministry of foreign affairs said, in the meeting, they have discussed removing the blacklist, unfreezing Afghan funds, violation of Afghan space by the US, and humanitarian issues.
