The United States does not consider the reopening of its embassy in Kabul but the government believes in engagement with the Taliban in some areas, said US state department’s spokesperson, Mattew Miller.

Miller who was answering questions during a press brief on 19th July added that negotiations with the Taliban and other allies of the US believe to be productive in certain circumstances.

With regards to the recognition of the Taliban, the spokesperson said that it will depend on certain steps taken by the Islamic Emirate which they (the Taliban) are a long way from reaching.

The spokesman has also attributed the issue of legitimacy of the Islamic Emirate to their treatment towards women in particular which he has termed to be abhorrent at the moment.

We’ve noted the latest moves by the Taliban, which follow, unfortunately, in a long line of steps they have taken to discriminate against women and girls.

Mathew Miller has asked other countries to assess their engagement with the Islamic Emirate as women’s treatment has been worse in the country and the US strongly objects to the situation.

This comes as the Islamic Emirate has ordered all beauty salons across the country to close which has sparked fresh condemnation and anger both inside and outside of the country.
