US, Central Asia Urges International Support to Stable Afghanistan

The special representatives of the US and central Asian nations to Afghanistan have called on the countries in the region and broader to support a peaceful, stable, terrorism-free, inclusive, sovereign, united Afghanistan where human and women’s rights are protected and in peace with itself and other countries, US State Department said in a statement.

The gathering of the special session of C5+1 on Afghanistan was convened on July 27th between Tomas West and special envoys of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan to Afghanistan in the Kazakhstan capital, Astana.

The joint press release published by State Department on Friday, August 11th reads that the meeting focused on the importance of not allowing Afghanistan to become a safe harbor for terrorists, spreading terrorism and extremism to other countries, and preventing all types of trafficking from the country.

The special envoys acknowledged that the international community should make efforts to address the ongoing humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and that all Afghans in need should have access to aid irrespective of their cast, religion, sex, and political view while acknowledging the importance of all Afghans participating in the improvement of the country and need for national dialogue.

The representatives have also reiterated the right to free movement of Afghans holding legal documents and reaffirmed the implementation of major economic and transit projects.

Participants of the meeting also welcomed the decline in drug production and cultivation in Afghanistan while highlighting the importance of a drug-free Afghanistan for all regional countries.

In the end, the special representatives supported the presence of UN agencies and UN political presence in Afghanistan.
