Two Afghan Journalists Release in Nangarhar Province

Two local journalists- Faqir Muhammad Faqirzai and Jan Agha Saleh- who were detained by the local intelligence office in the eastern Nangarhar province were released, the Afghanistan Journalists Center said in a statement.
The center has welcomed the release and has asked for the urgent release of other journalists in prison.
Afghanistan Journalists Center quoting local sources said that the journalists were released in Kabul on 31st August adding that the Islamic Emirate has given no reason behind their detention.
Citing its sources, the center has said that the journalists were arrested for working for media banned in Afghanistan.
According to the statement, detention of journalists in illegal and in contradiction with the law of media in Afghanistan prohibiting government authorities from arresting journalists during their work.
The statement has asked the Islamic Emirate to stop arresting journalists in the country as it will threaten the media workers and lead to self-censorship.
Per the stats of the Afghanistan Journalists Center, there are still ten journalists detained by security and intelligence forces in Afghanistan.
