Chinese Envoy Lauds IEA’s Counternarcotic Efforts

China’s ambassador to Kabul has met with the deputy interior minister and has appreciate the efforts made by the Islamic Emirate in decreasing the plantation of poppy.

Abdul Matin Qani, spokesperson of interior ministry in a series of Twitter posts said during the meeting between Wang Yu and Abdul Haq Akhund, both discussed various security, political and narcotics related issues.

According to Qani, the deputy minister who is also leading the ministry’s anti-narcotics department said, Afghan government is committed to root out the cultivation, process and trafficking of poppy in the country.

In the meeting, the Chinese envoy has also expressed his country’s commitment and willingness to eradicate narcotics in the region.

This comes as recent statistics demonstrate that Afghanistan’s cultivation of poppy has been decreased by over 95 per cent and has been replaced by wheat.
